my path to becoming a trial attorney uh
0:09
was really a little
0:10
serendipitous I began as a physician I
0:13
practiced medicine I was a pediatrician
0:16
who worked for a major children’s
0:18
hospital and when I finished my
0:20
residency program I was thinking about
0:23
uh what to do with the rest of my career
0:25
and whether I should subspecialize in
0:27
some area of Pediatrics and I decided
0:30
that what I really was interested is in
0:32
the legal field and my original thought
0:35
was that I would move into the area of
0:36
healthcare administration and maybe
0:38
someday become the CEO of a hospital or
0:41
work in some regards within the field of
0:43
medicine after I uh completed my
0:46
education my law school and my pediatric
0:49
residency I then began practicing
0:51
General Pediatrics where I headed up a
0:54
an outpatient physician practice I also
0:56
did some inpatient Pediatrics and at
0:58
some point I just recognized that it
1:01
really wasn’t for me my personality
1:03
really didn’t fit in with the
1:05
pediatricians and I really had more of
1:07
the personality of an attorney I was a
1:10
little more aggressive I was not afraid
1:13
of uh controversy and and taking on the
1:16
higher ups and I decided to make the
1:18
transition into practicing
1:24
law I tell my clients that they need to
1:27
be patient unfortunately living
1:29
litigation takes a long time much longer
1:33
than really it should uh and it’s very
1:36
difficult to people uh to be patient
1:38
because frequently they’re injured they
1:41
have real needs
1:44
today but there’s no way to get them
1:46
money until the case Works its way
1:48
through the system so although
1:50
settlements frequently do occur those
1:52
settlements often only occur after
1:56
litigation is completed right on the
1:57
verge of trial that means can literally
2:00
be years between when a client comes to
2:03
me and when there’s eventually a
2:04
recovery for them so patience is really
2:07
critical
